Nigeria: Eaglets undergo mandatory MRI test in Abuja

Nigeria Football Federation has planned a mandatory Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test  to be conducted at the Abuja National Hospital, for all the players of the Golden Eaglets preparing for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirate October 17  to November 9.

According to NFF technical committee chairman, Chris Green, this was to forestall any embarrassment for the country at the tournament.

“We must ensure that only players within the age bracket, as stipulated by world football body FIFA, will wear the country’s colours at the World Cup in the UAE in October.”

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said Wednesday in Abuja there would not be automatic shirt for any player of the team.

The technical crew is planning to pick some new players to complement the team which won the silver medal at the African Youth Championship (AYC) in Morocco in April.

“This is because the NFF is desirous of seeing the Golden Eaglets mount the podium as world champions yet again, since their last accolade in 2007

“I hope you know we are the best country in the world at the Under-17 level. But it has been a long time we won the trophy.

“That is why we are encouraging the coaches to assemble only the best players who can do us proud in the UAE.

“You must have seen the standard of this team. So, there is no automatic shirt for any player in the Golden Eaglets or in any of the national teams for that matter.

“You must have something extra to break into the team,” Green added.

NFF Director of Technical, Emmanuel Ikpeme, also advised the players to be focused in order not to jeopardise their future,

“The NFF will not condone any conduct that shows indiscipline in the team.

“And I want to let you know that nobody is sure of his position in this team until the final list is made for  the World Cup,” Ikpeme said.
