British experts score Delta sports high

Delta State Sports got a high rating yesterday from visiting Sports experts from Britain while the vision of the helmsman of its Sports Commission, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick got kudos.

Mark Ellis, a former Assistant Coach of Arsenal football club, passed the verdict during a live television interview programme aired by the Delta Broadcasting Service.

Ellis, together with two other Britons are in Warri to conduct a coaching clinic for Referees and Coaches in DeltaState.

The one – week training programme which is holding at the ultra-modern Warri City Stadium entered its second day yesterday, with lots of excitement in the oil city and its environs.

The Delta State Sports Commission under Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick has witnessed a legion of programmes all year round, putting their athletes in good stead.

Last year, capacity building for football coaches was held in October, while the scope was expanded this year to encapsulate the referees.

Apart from Mark Ellis, the two other experts, Mr. Andrew Douglas, head of Arsenal Soccer Schools Worldwide and Jeff Winter, a Referee with the English Premier League (EPL) were of the opinion that Delta State is a clear leader in sports in Nigeria and the likes of Mr. Pinnick should be given the opportunity to serve in higher capacities.
