Christians mark Ash Wednesday

CHRISTIANS all over  the world will today mark Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent; its official name being “Day of Ashes,” so called because of the practice of rubbing ashes on one’s forehead in the sign of a cross.
According to a release by the Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Msgr. Gabriel Osu, Lenten season is a period of 40 days during which Christians are encouraged to intensify prayers, abstinence, fasting and alms giving
