The plan of the organisers was to showcase some of the biggest names in African music at the moment around the continent and they succeeded but with one spectacular distinction.
Venue was the huge event tent of the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos on Saturday night on the Nigerian leg of the tour which would climax in Durban South Africa in May.
They brought on 2face as the final act of the evening and he simply eclipsed the showings of all who climbed the stage before him and those included: Davido, Professor from South Africa, Ice Prince and DJ Jimmy Jatt on the deck – all of who didn’t have a bad show at show.
But 2baba is the master and he proved that in emphatic fashion by standing head and shoulders above all and making the enthusiastic crowd both nostalgic and delirious at the same time.
Kicking off with classics from the Plantashun Boiz days, he glided into See Me So before bringing his protégés, Dammy Krane and Rocsteady upstage and letting some of the unique aura of a premium star rub off them as they performed alongside him.
When they left he continued with No Dulling, Implication, True Love and finally acceding to the crowd’s demand for Ihe N’eme which he couldn’t do at Omawumi’s show.
One can only imagine what would happen on stage when 2baba climbs the stage with the one and only Snoop Lion at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on May 13 for the grand finale of the MTV Africa Allstars Concert!
