Minister of State for Education, Mr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has called on the Department of State Security (DSS), not to be discouraged by the killing of 10 of her personnel in the service to the nation.
Wike, who spoke during a condolence visit to the DSS Director General, Mr. Ekpeyong Ita, said the entire Federal Ministry of Education is saddened by the gruesome killings.
While condemning the killings, he said the Federal Ministry of Education has a special relationship with the DSS as the personnel of the service worked with the ministry to stem the tide of free textbooks meant for less privileged Nigerians by unpatriotic persons. “We condemn the killing of these young personnel who are committed to serving their fatherland.”
On behalf of the Minister of Education, management and staff of the Federal Ministry of Education, “I commiserate with you over the death of your personnel. We are particularly sad because some of these men participated in operations to check the theft of federal government free textbooks”.
He prayed God to comfort the DSS and families of the bereaved.
Responding, Ita said that the service has forgiven those who perpetrated the ungodly act. He pointed out that the casualty rate of the Nasarawa killings was the worst in the history of the service. He said repeated engagements with terrorists have never witnessed such casualties in one fell swoop.
He said: “We will never raise the white flag. They will be the ones to raise the white flag.” Highpoint of the condolence visit was the signing of the condolence register by the Minister of State for Education.
