Fresh plots directed at unseating Governor Chibuke Amaechi intensified

LAGOS — Plots directed at unseating Governor Chibuke Amaechi of Rivers State allegedly intensified last weekend following moves to incorporate the major security agencies into a plot to finish off the governor.

At the top of the fresh moves, it was learnt yesterday, is a prominent female opponent of the governor based in Abuja but a career civil servant in the Bayelsa State civil service.

The fresh schemes, it was learnt, were rehearsed at a meeting in Yenogoa, Bayelsa State involving the female Bayelsan civil servant and heads of some security agencies based in Rivers State.

The female opponent of the governor, we gathered yesterday, was reported to have charged the heads of security agencies to emulate a certain state Commissioner of Police who has already been lambasted by loyalists of Governor Amaechi of bias.

The meeting, it was learnt, was upon concerns that efforts directed against Amaechi had so far done little in whittling his political base in the state.

The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Otelemaba Amachree had last week called for the re-deployment of CP Mbu alleging that the Commissioner of Police had a set agenda to destabilize the political leadership in the state.

Mbu was posted to the State barely two months ago.

Noting the involvement of Mbu in the siege on Obio/Akpor Local Government Council secretariat and the sack of the caretaker committee of the council, the speaker had in a statement last Friday said:

“The clamp down on officers of the council at exactly 2.00 pm by the Commissioner of Police Rivers State, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu through the instrumentality of the Divisional Police Officer Rumuokoro Police Divisional Headquarters, while the workers were going about their lawful duties, was in total breach of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as Amended) and the Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria”.

“We are living in uncertain times and can no longer be sure of the safety of lives and property in Rivers State. Consequently, we call on the Inspector General of Police to cause an investigation to be carried out on this brazen abuse of power by the Commissioner of Police Rivers State Mr. Mbu J. Mbu and redeploy him out of Rivers State, before he plunges this peaceful state into a state of anarchy”, said Amachre
