2015: Akinjide Kicks off Re-election Campaign for Jonathan

Jumoke AkinjideThe Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Jumoke Akinjide, at the weekend, merely converted the distribution of her empowerment materials to the people of Oyo State to seek the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan, who she said, deserved a return to the presidency.

Akinjide, who was in Ibadan, to distribute agricultural implements to farmers, described her principal as the most women-friendly leader in the history of Nigeria, considering the number of women appointed in his cabinet.

The minister stated: “President Jonathan’s cabinet has thirteen women as ministers, the United Nations representative, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria are also women. He has been very religious in the allocation of 35 per cent share to women in all ways, and he has promised to make it 50/50 by 2015 if re-elected. I, therefore, call on all Nigerians and especially you women in my constituency, to vote for President Jonathan in 2015 so that this dream of equality with men could be realised for the betterment of all of us.”

Akinjide, who distributed thousands of bags of fertiliser to farmers in all the 33 local government areas of the state  as well as some tractors to the Ogbomoso, Ibarapa and Oke Ogun II zones of the state to assist them in their agricultural businesses, said: “These fertilisers are to be given to farmers in every local government area of this state free of charge.”

According to her, “these must be given directly to farmers. It is not to be sold or given to politicians who will sell them. I don’t want anybody to be discriminated upon in the distribution. Please, give it to everybody, irrespective of political affiliation, I mean, including ACN. Those, who did not vote for us might through this benefit vote for us in the next elections.

“Whenever we get to power, we are not going to discriminate in our welfare package to our people. Every weekend, you know that we meet here to chat and deliberate; we eat together, and give ourselves transport money. We are grassroots politicians and so I am advising that all of us should be united so that we can take government from the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) or the All Progressives Congress (APC). Our government is a party of many people. It is a party, which recognises the masses of the grassroots, market women, civil servants, taxi drivers, plumbers, and others.”

Speaking also, the Nigerian Ambassador to Jordan, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, extolled the political and social values of the minister describing her as not only a minister, but a woman of virtue, a mother and a grassroots mobiliser, who should be supported by all members of the party in her onerous task of stabilising the party in Nigeria in general, and in Oyo State in particular.
