LAGOS, Nigeria (AP)  Authorities say a Nigerian court has sentenced two foreigners to 15 years for smuggling nearly half a ton of cocaine into Africa’s most populous nation.
A spokesman for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said in a statement that a court convicted Taiwanese national Fong Chui Sen and Chinese national Richard Wang on Friday of conspiracy and the unlawful importation of some 450 kilograms (some 990 pounds) of cocaine.
Three Nigerians accused of helping the convicts were found not guilty.
The shipment seized on July 27, 2010 at a port in Nigeria’s commercial capital of Lagos has a street value of more than $28 million. It originated from Chile and passed through Peru, Bolivia and Belgium.
The seizure was the agency’s second-largest since 2006 when it netted 14.2 tons of cocaine.
