NIGERIA: Oshiomhole swears in 18 new commissioners

Governor AdamsGOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has sworn in eighteen Commissioners into the state cabinet with a charge on them to brace up for the challenges that will drive the changes required to fast-track the development of the state.

Speaking shortly after administering the oath of office on the commissioners in Government House, Benin City Saturday,  Oshiomhole said “I expect you to do better as we are no longer learning the curves.

“Let me congratulate you on your appointment. You notice for those who are coming back I say welcome. To the new ones I say welcome on board. Let me use this opportunity to say in reappointing the ones that have been reappointed, I take into account that all the praises that have been showered on me and the Deputy Governor for the changes that we have brought about in Edo State whether it is in the area of infrastructure, social sector, is the result of our collective efforts. A tree cannot make a forest” he said.

Oshiomhole said “in acknowledging the fact that I won the last election in the eighteen Local Government Areas, it was a vote of confidence on the team that has superintended over Edo State since the past four years and you were at the heart, part and parcel co- drivers of those changes.

I have had opportunity to say that I feel lucky that I appropriate that goodwill. Because in truth you all worked so hard. Your re-appointment is simply to say we appreciated your contribution and with you, I will have old colleagues with whom we can have the necessary changes”.

The Governor noted “I also have the privilege to swear in new men and women into the council, They are also men and women who I believe are no longer strangers to me having worked with them either within the party or outside the party.

They are people who I know share the same level of passion and concern that Edo must never suffer again from good governance and are determined to manage the resources that our people will continue to get value and that the mandate we have been given will be justified by the way we shall work and the creative manner in which we shall manage our resources”.

He admonished them “I believe three years and eight months is not a long time and there is so much to be done. There is so much fire in my heart that we must discharge and work harder to justify the unprecedented level of confidence that Edo people have expressed in our ability. Every local government expects that his vote will be rewarded with development. Every community must feel the presence of a government that works and a government that cares and one that appreciates that the people are the master and those in government are the stewards.

“To our women I must confess you have seen only two women today. But we are going to invite more commissioners on board and any new commissioner will be a woman. At the end of the day we would have more female commissioners. The Edo woman has stood by us”, Oshiomhole added.

Responding on behalf of others, Barrister Osarodion Ogie thanked the Governor for the appointment.

He said “I want to assure you that we accept the challenges of bringing to fruition your electoral promises. We are prepared and fit to bring your electoral promises to fruition”.
