NIGERIA: Gunmen Kill 10 in Kaduna Community

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen were reported to have invaded Tattaura village  in Sanga Local Government Area  of Kaduna State,  killing 10 people about 10p.m. on Saturday, bringing an end to the Christmas festivities in the community.

A resident of the community, Mr. Thomas Adams, told THISDAY in a telephone interview that the people of the area were very conscious of the security challenges in their communities and had taken all precautions to avoid being attacked, but unfortunately the gunmen stormed the community and opened fire at a shop were people were relaxing.

He said four other people sustained serious injuries from gunshots and were rushed to the hospital in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

The gunmen were said to have escaped into the bush before officials of the military task force on security   arrived in the village.

“In the afternoon,  as people were dancing to celebrate Christmas, we were very alert of the security situation.  At about 6p.m., we asked everybody to  disperse and go home as it was getting dark so as to avoid any unfortunate situation and everybody went back home.

“But at about 10p.m. the Fulani herdsmen, armed with sophisticated weapons came to a shop where people were relaxing and opened fire.
“Ten people were killed on the spot and four others were injured with bullets wounds,” Adams said.

According to him, the attack came in spite of the peace accord signed between the communities in the local government  area and the Fulani herdsmen.   A top security source who confirmed the incident, said security personnel were combing the area to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
