The Federal Executive Council will at its weekly meeting Tuesday, ratify the National Infrastructure Master Plan, NIMP, Minister, National Planning and Deputy Chairman, National Planning Commission, NPC, Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman, has said.
The minister disclosed this during a visit to the headquarters of Subsidy Reinvestment Empowerment Programme, SURE-P, in Abuja.
He said the plan had already been ratified by governors at the last National Economic Council, NEC, meeting last month.
Sulaiman said he was in the office to solicit the committee’s assistance in the area of project monitoring and evaluation, as well as generating data on victims of insurgency.
The Minister, however, commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the establishment of SURE-P, describing the agency as one that has restored hope of Nigerians in their well-being, even as he made strong case for the committee in the area of easier access to funding.
While hinting that the commission was planning to embark on project inspection, monitoring and evaluation of federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, in no distant time, the minister noted that “our commission cannot go it alone and that is why we need your collaboration.”
He lamented the perception Nigerians had of the establishment, saying, “if we don’t look at things holistically, we won’t get things in place at the right time in the right way.
“Yes, we have goals we seek to achieve as a nation, but how do we achieve those goals? This is where our commission comes in.
In his response, the SURE-P Chairman, Lt. General Martins Luther Agwai (rtd), expressed satisfaction with the visit and assured that the minister’s request would be looked into within the constitutional provisions governing the committee’s mandate.
He urged the minister to come over and take his position as a member of SURE-P, assuring that his coming on board “would greatly enrich our discourse in SURE-P.”
