Following the recent disagreement between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Nigeria’s opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC) over the exact role of the opposition in nation building, the leader of opposition in the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has conceded that his party is only rebellious against structures that have left Nigerians with no hope of a better country.
The PDP had earlier in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, referred to the APC as a political party acting like a rebel group driven by “frustration and bitterness.”
But Gbajabiamila, who is also APC leader in the House of Representatives, in a statement signed by his Research and Media Aide, Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart, yesterday in Abuja, expressed reservation over the inability of the federal government to decode the mood of its citizens who he claimed are brazenly against “a mentally fatigued government.”
“The ruling party must understand and accept that all of Nigeria have rebelled against its misrule, nay the international community has rebelled and this rebellion will be manifested at the polls in February 2015. We have rebelled against the ineptitude of a do nothing government that has no answer to the kidnap of over 200 young girls for over 2 months now and counting. There will be continuous rebellion against a mentally fatigued government whose only answer to a terrorist menace on Nigerians is to point an accusing finger at the opposition whilst the carnage continues and the terrorists are emboldened,” Gbajabiamila said.
The APC leader also queried the ineffectual approach of the PDP-led government towards fighting corruption.
“We have rebelled against the disappearance of $20 billion from our collective patrimony. Yes as a party, we have rebelled against the continuous kleptomania of a clueless government. We will continue to rebel against the illegal and unconstitutional violation of the fundamental human right of freedom of movement in the name of election security whilst PDP ministers are ferried to Ekiti.”
He added that, “Yes APC, Nigeria and rest of the world will rebel against such naked abuse of power. We will and must continue to rebel together with Nigerians against nepotism appointments to sensitive positions in offices such as the NDLEA. Indeed we will continue to rebel against accidental public servants who have no clue and are ill prepared for the responsibilities of their offices.”
Gbajabiamila also advised the PDP to be ready to confront many Nigerians who are worried about the impending division in the country, “If this is the rebellion the PDP talks then they need not address their frustrations to just the APC, they need to extend their senseless vituperations to all Nigerians and the rest of the world. We will rebel against a government that seeks to divide our great country along ethnic and religious lines. Need we go on? The die is cast.”
The APC leader pledged his party’s commitment to consistently challenge what it perceived as unlawful and undemocratic actions of the ruling PDP, “again we will continue to rebel against a government that seeks to impeach a governor with six legislators. Of course rebellion must continue against a government and a party that drops criminal charges against son of a former head of state charged with grand larceny just so to win an election in one state and believes stealing is not corruption. Nigeria continues to witness a tragic comedy of errors under the PDP. A comedy that unfortunately isn’t funny,” Gbajabiamila stated.
