Following the controversy generated over who the authentic National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is, with non-recognition of Professor Wale Oladipo by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), a socio-political group, the Solidarity Movement of Nigeria (SMN) has called on the leadership of the ruling PDP to reinstate Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
The group which faulted the continued disobedience of Court of Appeal Order by the PDP on the reinstatement of Oyinlola, urged President Goodluck Jonathan, PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, BoT Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih and other stakeholders to accelerate actions on the issue as a matter of national importance.
It however described Oyinlola as a bridge-builder with native intelligence, thoroughbred administrator and politician par excellence, adding that he was the only soul that could be used by God’s grace to finding lasting solution to the political challenges rocking the ruling party at the national and state levels, particularly, in Osun State at the moment ahead of forthcoming governorship poll.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the group’s National Coordinator and Publicity Secretary, Comrades Abayomi Adegoke and Yawus Manshak after the monthly meeting of the body in Osogbo.
The group passed vote of confidence on Oyinlola as a reliable leader and rallying point for PDP to win the forthcoming governorship election in the State, even as they urged him not to relent in his diligent efforts and giant strides to return to his constitutional position in the party.
The Statement further disclosed that the purported current National Secretary of the party, Professor Oladipo emerged through the backdoor which was not recognised by law, stressing that the emergence of Oladipo was causing disaffection within the fold of the party, particularly, Osun State which may affect the chances of the party in winning the forthcoming governorship poll in the State.
SMN reiterated that the call for implementing the Appeal court ruling that returned the former governor of Osun State to the office as substantive National Secretary of the PDP was germane, maintaining that staying in office by Professor Oladipo as National Secretary illegally, was tantamount to the poking fingers into the eyes of the law and such illegality should not be allowed to continue.
"At this point in time, the truth must be told for the progress, growth and development of the PDP in Osun State and the nation at large. The peace that eluded the Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for some time now was as a result of the controversy surrounding the illegal way and manner, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola was relieved of his lawful position in the great party.
"Professor Wale Oladipo is a stakeholder in the party (PDP) and anybody that wants victory for the party during the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State must be ready to pay the supreme sacrifice". Therefore, Professor Oladipo should be ready to vacate the office honourably for lasting peace to reign and for victory of the party in August 9th, 2014 governorship election, as posterity will not forget him by allowing the lawful and substantive National Secretary(Prince Oyinlola) to occupy his rightful position.
"I want to use this medium again to urge the leadership of the party in the country, including President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Vice-President Namadi Sambo, PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, PDP BOT Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih and other leaders of the party to correct the anomalies before it is too late in order to pave way for the unity and progress of the party in Osun State and country at large", the group said.
