Insurgency: Foreign Mercenary with Dual Chad, Burkina Faso Nationality Captured

Armed Boko Haram insurgentsThe fact that the Boko Haram scourge is being aided by foreign nationals and influences was given credence Thursday as a heavily armed suspect of Chad and Burkina Faso nationality was captured recently by the troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
This was disclosed in a statement by the Director of Defence Information (DDI), Maj-Gen Chris Olukolade.
Olukolade said sustained patrols and searches by the MNJTF had led to the arrest of more terrorists, including a heavily armed suspect who claimed to be of Chad and Burkina-Faso nationality.
“He was arrested with different calibres of arms and ammunition along the Chad borders and is currently helping in an ongoing investigation by the special forces,” he said.
He revealed that a group of terrorists attempting to escape into Cameroun through Taraba and Gombi in Adamawa States also came under heavy fire from troops on patrol in the area.
According to him, the Boko Haram members who had been trapped as a result of the ongoing offensive by troops along the borders were forced out of hiding when some of them could no longer bear the hunger in their make shift camps in the forest.
Olukolade further revealed that those who were apprehended led troops to other hideouts where fierce fighting ensued.
The defence spokesman said about seven terrorists were killed during the fighting, while a large number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and rifles were recovered, including over 70 motorcycles.
He added: “A similar encounter in Gombi also led to the death of four other terrorists. Patrols are still ongoing around the Lake Chad including Kwatan, Kanwa, Kwatan Yobe and other islands.”
