National Conference: Okun Leaders Task Delegates on Patriotism

The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Yomi Awoniyi, has charged  delegates to the National Conference to heed the advise of President Goodluck Jonathan not to allow ethnicity and religious to obstruct their patriotic duty to work together to fashion out a more progressive Nigeria.
Awoniyi, who spoke at a dinner organised by the Okun Development Association (ODA) in Abuja  to honour of six delegates from Okunland,  thanked  the president for acceeding to the request of Nigerians to convoke the conference.
He said the president’s speech at the opening of the conference constituted enough challenge for the delegates to chat a course for a new Nigeria.
According to Awoniyi,  one of the advice of the president which the delegates must think about is the fact that we must move away from the prejudices of yesterday in order embrace one another in new wave of patriotic zeal.
He said his was proud that the delegates from Okunland are made up of very sound minds and people who love the well-being of the people.
He said the Kogi State government was putting together a technical support group to act as a buffer to all the delegates from the state who may need such support to make effective impact during the conference.
The six delegates from Okun are Chief Kolade Jamodu (Yagba)  Mr. Olusola Akanmode (Ijumu), Dr. Femi Obayori (Ijumu), Raphael Osanaiye, ( Ijumu) Ambassador John Kayode Shinkaiye (Yagba West), Bayo Ojo (Ijumu).
While welcoming guests at the dinner, National President of ODA, Ambassador Fadumiyo, said the occasion was a thanksgiving dinner for its sons and daughters who had been chosen to attend the national conference.
“As our Okun faithful and loyal representatives at the 2014 national conference, you are urged to articulate, canvass and negotiate with your other delegates at the conference, the resolutions of the communique, particularly the core demand that an Okun state be created, together with other Yoruba entities with similar interests, and adjusted and aligned it with the South-west region of Nigeria, ” he said.
