NIGERIA: Court Ejects CPC from National Secretariat

The defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has been forcefully evicted from its national secretariat  in Abuja by an Abuja High Court over unpaid rent. Officials of the High Court stormed the Secretariat at noon on Friday in the company of security operatives to enforce the court order for the recovery of the premises.
The officers on arrival at the secretariat made their way into the building after posting the court papers on the gate and asked the few staff present to hand over to them the keys to all rooms in the three-Storey building.
The party had engaged  in a legal tussle over the property located at Plot 1132, Festus Okotie-Eboh Crescent in Utako District in the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) owned by the party’s estranged pioneer national chairman, Senator Rufai Hanga. Addressing journalists outside the secretariat,  the former chieftain of CPC and now  Senator Hanga’s Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Dennis Aghanya said the leadership of CPC under Mr. Tony Momoh had reneged on an agreement with Hanga over the use of the property and instead decided to go to court.
