PORT HARCOURT— PEOPLES Democratic Party, PDP in Rivers State, has been warned not to field the Supervising Minister of Education, Mr Nyesom Wike, as its candidate in year’s governorship poll.
Some members of the party, under the aegis of Rivers PDP Third Force Movement, in a statement in Port Harcourt, said since Wike hails from the same Ikwerre ethnic nationality with Governor Chibuike Amaechi, other ethnic groups in the state will not want to support another Ikwerre man to take over from Amaechi.
Mr Oprite Amachree, Secretary of the group, also called on the national leadership of the party to help rescue the party at the state level from what it termed the over-bearing influence of Wike.
“The attention of the Rivers PDP Third Force Movement has been drawn to a purported endorsement of Wike to be the governorship candidate of PDP in Rivers State for the 2015 general elections.
“The purported endorsement is highly condemnable by us, it makes a caricature of the principle of equity, justice, fairness and adequate representation practised by our highly esteemed party,†the group said.
