NIGERIA: I Have Not Resigned as Speaker – Ochei

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei, Monday denied the news making the rounds that he had resigned his position.
Ochei made the clarification in Asaba, while fielding questions from journalists shortly after the state Governor, Emmnauel Uduaghan, signed the N451 billion 2014 Appropriation Bill into law.
According to Ochei, “I have not resigned as the Speaker of state House of Assembly, as you can see. I am here in Government House to witness the signing of the states budget of N451 billion  2014 Appropriation Bill into law; by the governor, so it is rumour that you heard.”
It was gathered that Ochei sat side by side with Uduaghan during the signing of the bill into law.
The Speaker came to the Government House without the usual fanfair and the paraphernalia of office as no security personnel accompanied him.
However, THISDAY gathered that Ochei had at the weekend concluded plans to officially announce his resignation today when the legislature resumes sitting.
It was also gathered that he had already handed his letter of resignation to Uduaghan  and the Deputy Speaker  Hon . Basil Ganagana.
Ochei, a third-term assemblyman, who represents Aniocha North Constituency, was elected Speaker of the fifth assembly in June 2011.
He is one of the governorship aspirants from Delta North senatorial district seeking to succeed the incumbent governor, in 2015, but has not formally declared his ambition.
