NIGERIA: Ex-council boss kidnapped in Ebonyi church

ABAKALIKI— SUSPECTED kidnappers, weekend, abducted the former Co-ordinator of Okposi Development Centre, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Mr. Ihebunandu Okorie.
He was abducted inside the premises of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Obioha Okposi at 1pm after attending a church service.
It was gathered that the gunmen, who were heavily armed, waited for him in the premises and promptly whisked him away in his car, a Toyota four runner, with plate number, NCA 94 AA.
An eyewitness said the kidnappers came with a green-coloured Mercedes 230 Benz, V boot, with a Lagos number plate, BS 559 KJA.
He said: “As Okorie was coming out of the church, they began shooting into the air, sending members of the church scampering for safety.
“Before escaping, they shot at the tires and fuel tank of the Benz in an attempt to set it ablaze.”
Police spokesman, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Chris Anyanwu, said he was yet to be briefed on the development.
