NIGERIA: Ralph Uwechue is Dead Ihedioha, others mourn

Former President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ambassador Ralph Uwechue, 79, is dead
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Uwechue died at the National Hospital, Abuja, Thursday afternoon.
He was said to have been ill since November last year.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha and the member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, Mr. Ndudi Elumelu, have reacted to his death.
In his tribute, Ihedioha, had described Uwechue as a “quintessential statesman,” adding that his death was ‘’painful, unfortunate and regretful.”
The deputy speaker, in a statement by his spokesperson, Oke Epia, expressed shock at the sad development, noting that Ndigbo had lost a quintessential statesman, father figure and rallying point for unity and progress of the Igbo race and one who led brilliantly during his tenure as President of Ohaneze Ndigbo.
He prayed God Almighty to grant his soul peaceful passage to eternal rest while consoling the family left behind. Elumelu also said ‘’the entire Igbo race has lost a great man and son,’’ saying he would be remembered for his mission to unite Igbo.’’
Similarly, the President of Aka Ikenga, , the Igbo think tank, Chief Goddy Uwazuruike, said: “Ambassador Uwechue was a great man, a diplomat, a leader of people, an author, a publisher and a respected Igbo leader. We will miss his mature advice.”
