Operatives at the Police Special Fraud Unit, SFU, Lagos, have arrested a Bureau de Change employee and his wife for allegedly stealing $50,000 from his employer.
Mrs Ngozi Isintume Agu, the spokesperson of the Unit said the Commissioner of Police, SFU, got a petition dated January 27, calling for investigation of his employee over theft.
She said: “The complainant claimed the suspect, a 32-year-old mechanical engineering graduate from Abia State University, was sent to the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, in company of three other staff to collect $50,000 USD each for foreign exchange business.
“The suspect made away with the money and switched off his phones. He then changed his phone numbers and was in contact with only his wife and an unnamed girlfriend.
“Police, in collaboration with the communication company, was able to track down the fleeing suspect in neighbouring Republic of Benin where he was hiding.â€
