NIGERIA: 2007 Osogbo bomb blast: Principal suspect’s trial begins

OSOGBO—The trial of Mr. Abayomi Adesanmi, the prime suspect  in the 2007 bomb blast that rocked the Osun State Government Secretariat, Osogbo which claimed one live would commence today at the State High Court sitting in Osogbo.
At the last hearing, the defence counsel, Mr. Pius Andrew pleaded for adjournment to allow him study the content of the substituted charge against the suspect.
Mr. Andrew had told the court after the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Wale Afolabi had stated the state’s readiness to call its witnesses quickly applied for short time to enable him study the content of the charge and prepare his defence.
According to the prosecuting counsel led by the Attorney-General, the prosecution has seven witnesses to call saying four of the witnesses are in court.
However, when the defence counsel pleaded for extension of time, Afolabi pleaded the court to grant an adjournment of 24 hours to enable quick and judicial dispensation of the matter.
