Confab: Retired Para-military Officers Flay Exclusion

Retired Para-military officers under the aegis of the National Association of Retired Para-military Officers (NARPO) in Nigeria have expressed displeasure at their exclusion from the delegates’ list for the forth-coming national conference.
They noted that the non-representation at the conference would rob the crucial national event of the needed contribution of a strategic segment of the nation.
In a statement issued and made available to THISDAY yesterday by the association Publicity Secretary, Mr. Abdullahi Garuba Gulu, NARPO’s National President, Dr. Adewale Oloyede, said in Abuja that the association, comprising retired officers of the Nigerian Customs Service, Prisons Service and Immigration Services, was alarmed that they were excluded from the list of delegates recently released by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
He noted that NARPO was duly qualified to be represented at the conference going by its sheer huge size, national coverage and particularly its exclusive repertoire of knowledge on various critical issues which are expected to come up during the conference.
According to Oloyede, “While we applaud the noble intentions of the federal government to call for the conference, we wish to observe that NARPO’s omission is a mere error which we believe is being addressed by the presidency whose attention we have already drawn to the matter.
“For the avoidance of doubt, our association has the size, spread and the varied exclusive expertise which we believe will add immense value to the conference.”
The body national president further disclosed that the association had, as members, retired officers cutting across the respective Para-military services such as former Comptrollers-General, Deputy Comptrollers-General among others, many of who are presently offering invaluable services in various fields to reputable national and international organisations.
