Olubadan Kicks against Jonathan’s Visit to Alaafin

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Odulana Olugade, Wednesday kicked against the recent visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III.

Olubadan did not only flaw the action of Jonathan and the state Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, who allegedly led the president to the ancient Oyo palace, but also described the action as an affront to him especially when the former did not deem it fit to pay a similar visit to him.

The Olubadan described the act as capable of jeopardising the peace in the state and bringing Ibadan chieftaincy institution to disrepute.

The monarch in a statement issued through the Olubadan -in-Council, tagged’ President Jonathan’s visit as being selective, added that while he and other members of the council awaited the arrival of the president, he breached the protocol of visiting him as the Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs and instead visited the state governor, who went with him to visit the Alaafin.

He said the development indicated that Ajimobi still recognises the Alaafin of Oyo as the permanent Chairman of the state Council of Obas and Chiefs, which is contrary to the existing Chieftaincy Law as amended in 2011 in Cap 37 Laws of Oyo State, 2000, which makes the chairmanship title rotational between the Alaafin, the Olubadan and Soun of Ogbomosoland every two years.

The Olubadan appealed to Jonathan and Ajimobi to desist from engaging in acts capable of jeopardising the peace of the state and bringing Ibadan chieftaincy institution into disrepute.
