Orji: Senatorial Ticket, Very Tempting

Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore OrjiAbia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, has said he would give a serious consideration to the call for him to represent Abia Central in the Senate at the end of his tenure as governor of the state in 2015.
He made this known yesterday when a delegation of state lawmakers from Abia central and Major Stakeholders’ Progressive Forum (MSPF) came to government house and presented their offer of senatorial ticket to the governor on the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“This is a very tempting offer,” he said, adding that his interpretation of the call for him to go to the senate was that the people wanted to reward him for doing well because if he was not performing well, nobody would want him to continue his political life beyond Abia government house.
But despite all the promptings and pleadings, Orji declined to be drawn into giving a definite answer on his future political life, insisting that he would prefer to concentrate on his quest “to make a difference in governance.
“I have heard your clarion call. I’m not deaf. At the appropriate time, I will give you answer,” he said.
For now, he said the task before him was “to make a mark for which I will be remembered, (which) has been my guiding principle in governance.”
While noting that “new things are happening today in all sectors of the state  economy, the governor pointed out that he was most pleased with the fact that “Abia is very free,” a feat he said though “not tangible (but remains) “a fundamental achievement.”
The Leader of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Chidiebere Nwoke, who was at the head of the delegation of stakeholders that came to present a copy of the communiqué of the November 22, 2013, 'extra-ordinary meeting of stakeholders of Abia Central extraction' where they resolved to persuade Orji to run for Senate.
He said  the stakeholders were all in agreement that the tenure of the governor “so far is a success story considering “the quantum leap in sectoral developments in Abia Central and other parts of the state.
“We hereby urge him (Orji) to consider in the spirit of patriotism the expedience of considering contesting the next senatorial election with the aim of representing the zone in the Senate in 2015,” the communiqué said.
To ensure a free passage for Orji, the stakeholders advised prospective delegates of the PDP “to shun every other attraction and to ensure the wish of the people prevails by nominating our quality candidate, Orji to contest the senatorial election.”
