Bamidele Dumps APC for LP

After much expectation, a member of the House of Representatives from Ekiti State, Hon Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, has eventually dumped his former party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Labour Party (LP) to further pursue his governorship ambition.
Bamidele, who represents Ado-Ekiti/Irepodun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, yesterday made the formal declaration at Emure-Ekiti in Emure Local Government Area of the state.
However, in a swift reaction, the Director of Publicity and Media, of the state chapter, Segun Dipe, said Bamidele’s declaration of his governorship ambition in Emure and on the platform of LP was a welcome development.
"This is democracy and it is about free entry, free exit. We are not surprised because we knew his destination all along and we had called the attention of our party members to his impending declaration for the LP.
"Governor Kayode Fayemi had to postpone his trip to Emure in respect of the dead.
"Why can’t Bamidele allow the dead-victim of a recent violence in the town to be buried before going there to play politics? This confirms our position that he actually masterminded the crisis and fatality in the town for his selfish interest," he said.
Emure-Ekiti was where a former member of his Bibire Coalition, Foluso Ogundare, was killed on November 3, and another victim, Beatrice Ige, sustained gun shots injuries while attending a ward meeting.
Briefing journalists on the development, Bamidele, who said he chose to make the declaration at the home town of the late Ogundare to honour him, said his decision to team up with LP was taken after much consultations with notable indigenes of the state.
"We have resolved to adopt, as our political platform, the party of the workers, the artisans, the women and youths, which undisputedly is the LP.
"And as we lead this state in this new direction, by God's grace, our pledge is to work hard towards changing the socio-political and economic destinies of the Ekiti people through good governance and strength of character in leadership.
"We will boost massive job creation initiatives, integrated agriculture, food security, rural development, sustainable infrastructural development and human capital development, with emphasis on health and education as well as law and order.
"And we are convinced that the LP is a credible progressive platform of convergence for our individual vision and commitment to internal democracy, which informed our individual decisions to form a new alliance and change coalition," he said.
While commiserating with the family of the deceased, Bamidele said: "Our mission to Emure today is to mourn the death of late Foluso Ogundare, to warn those who want to make peaceful change impossible that no one is above the law.
“Besides, we are also in the town in solidarity with the good people of Emure-Ekiti, to stand on their soil to break the news that we are quitting the ranks of desperados to embrace a new political order that will take the state to a new height."
