Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been paired with Ethiopia in the 2014 FIFA World Cup play-off draws made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Monday morning in Cairo, Egypt.
The Eagles have won five of the previous seven matches against Ethiopia, while Nigeria only lost to their rivals in 1994 and there have been two draws.
While the African champions were that fortunate with the Ethiopian pairing, Ghana picked Egypt in the play-offs. Other fixtures include; Ivory Coast Vs Senegal, Cameroun Vs Tunisia, Burkina Faso Vs Algeria.
Football aficionados in the country were unanimous in their verdict that the Super Eagles got the easiest of the oppositions in the two-legged, home and away play-offs of the 2014 World Cup.
Super Eagles led by John Mikel Obi Monday vowed to crush the Ethiopians in the final playoffs so as to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.
Chelsea midfielder, Mikel, said yesterday that there would be no hiding place for Ethiopia.
"It was a nice draw. Though I am not afraid of any team, Ethiopia will get thrashed. I am not saying they are not a good team but they are no match to us. We will give our very best as individuals and as a team," Mikel told MTNFootball.com
CSKA Moscow forward Ahmed Musa also boasts that Eagles will give their best as usual to beat Ethiopia and get the 2014 World Cup ticket.
"We couldn’t have asked for better opponents. With all due respect to them, they will be beaten well in both legs. We know what Nigerians expect and that is outright victory. We won't look down on them but we will prepare hard for them," Musa assured the country’s ball fans.
Also speaking on the draw, Celtic defender, Efe Ambrose said that Nigerians should not lose sleep over the opposition as Eagles are ready to crush any team on their way to 2014 World Cup.
"They are not a threat to us at any point so they won't be now, we will not underrate them. We will do our best and see that we beat them. I know they will want to come at us, but we are superior and will prove that again," Ambrose stated.
The ties will be played between 11-15 October 2013 and 15-19 November 2013.
