Firefighter Blake Abbott accused of slapping boy, 11, for throwing lollies

A FIREFIGHTER who allegedly slapped a young boy for throwing Skittles at him in a Gold Coast cinema has faced court charged with assault.

Blake Murray Abbott, 44, of Brisbane, is accused of hitting the 11-year-old boy across the stomach as the credits rolled on Superman: Man of Steel at Nerang Cineplex on June 27.

Police will allege the boy and his stepsister had been sitting across the aisle from his father and stepmother during an afternoon session when a large man confronted him.

It will be alleged Mr Abbott slapped the boy across the chest and torso, leaving red welts.

The boy's father said the man was angry after being hit by Skittles lollies during the film and believed the boy had been deliberately targeting him.

Yesterday Mr Abbott faced the Southport Magistrates Court intending to enter a plea but the case had to be rescheduled.

Potts Lawyers solicitor Rebecca Fogarty asked the case be moved to Brisbane next week where Mr Abbott lives.

Magistrate Catherine Pirie set the case for mention on September 3 in the Brisbane Magistrates Court.
